Newly Discovered Video: Alice Coltrane (Swamini Turiyasangitananda)

Featured, Music & Kirtan

Newly discovered video of the late great Jazz virtuoso, musician and composer, Alice Coltrane (Swami Turiyasangitananda) recorded live at Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville in 1993. Swamini performed live for her beloved Guru, Sri Swami Satchidananda and the Yogaville community. After opening with her soul-stirring composition “Journey In Satchidananda” on harp, she was joined by Swami Gurucharanananda (Mataji) on violin for inspiring renditions of “Amazing Grace” and the “Lord’s Prayer.” Swamini was so loved by Swami Satchidananda and her passing is still such a loss to the entire Integral Yoga organization and the world.

Swamini, spoke about inspiration for her album, during an interview in Integral Yoga Magazine (Fall 2005), when she shared: “Direct inspiration for “Journey in Satchidananda” comes from my meeting and association with someone who is near and dear to me. I am speaking of my own beloved spiritual preceptor, Swami Satchidananda. Swamiji is the first example I have seen in recent years of Universal Love or God in action. He expresses an impersonal love, which encompasses thousands of people. Anyone listening to this selection should try to envision himself floating on an ocean of Satchidanandaji’s love, which is literally carrying countless devotees across the vicissitudes and stormy blasts of life to the other shore…”

Swamini’s performance at Yogaville includes: Journey in Satchidananda. Watch here.
