A new book from North Atlantic Books invites practitioners to rediscover Yoga as something far more expansive than physical postures. Yoga Off the Mat: A Practical Guide to the Wisdom of Yoga—Find Balance, Meaning, and Liberation in Your Daily Life, by longtime Yoga teachers Sage Rountree, PhD, and Alexandra DeSiato, MA, was released in July 2026.

The 224-page book explores how traditional yogic teachings can be brought into everyday life, introducing readers to concepts such as the kleshas, koshas, chakras, subtle body, self-inquiry, attachment, and liberation. Rather than approaching Yoga primarily as a system of physical exercise, the authors emphasize the wisdom and philosophy underlying the practice and offer reflections, exercises, and journaling prompts designed to help readers apply those teachings beyond formal practice.

Rountree and DeSiato have more than 50 years of combined teaching experience and have previously collaborated on several books, including Teaching Yoga Beyond the Poses. North Atlantic Books describes their new volume as an effort to honor Yoga’s traditional roots while making its philosophical teachings accessible within contemporary life. Yoga Off the Mat is available in paperback and ebook editions from North Atlantic Books.
