Resources: Classes & Camps for Children

There are many good DVDs, online videos and Yoga studios either specializing in Yoga for children, or who include classes for children. Some offer weekend workshops for kids and also summer camps. We’ve highlighted some of the best programs in the USA, including a specialized camp that features classical Indian temple dance, Yoga, meditation and kirtan for children.

Yoga for Children with Swami Satchidananda (DVD)

Camp Yogaville

Camp Yogaville is a week-long, Integral Yoga, sleep-away summer camp for children ages 8-12 held each June. Camp is held at the beautiful Satchidananda Ashram at Yogaville, Buckingham, Virginia. The program is hosted by Haris (Harini) Lender and senior staff of Yogaville.

Camp Yogaville is an opportunity for children to enjoy a week in the country while having lots of fun doing traditional camp activities such as hiking, swimming, star-gazing, sitting around a campfire and telling stories. The kids enjoy non-competitive, stress-free activities filled with opportunities to share and relate in a yogic way. They practice daily Hatha Yoga, learn about Patanjali’s four keys, and experience the wonderful adventure of sleeping in rustic cabins. The children learn a few Sanskrit chants along with their campfire songs and listen to wonderful stories of saints and sages from all over the world. At Camp Yogaville, kids experience an environment where yogic ideals such as vegetarian diet and non-violence are supported and nurtured.

The program includes daily Yoga classes, fresh vegetarian food, experiences with nature, terrific staff and much more. They meet other children from the greater Yoga community and experience an environment where yogic ideals, such as vegetarian diet and non-violence, are supported and nurtured.
